How to Fix Missing H1 Heading
What it is
The H1 is the main heading of a page, the top-level title visitors read on the page itself. It is marked with an h1 tag in the code.
Why it matters
- It tells visitors and search engines what the page is mainly about.
- Screen-reader users often navigate by headings, so a clear structure helps them.
- Usually one h1 per page is recommended, followed by h2 and h3 subheadings.
How to fix it
- Choose one main heading that describes the page.
- Mark it as Heading 1 / H1 in your editor.
- Use H2 and H3 for sub-sections, not extra H1s.
- Re-scan to confirm there is exactly one.
Platform tips
| WordPress | In the block editor, add a Heading block and set it to H1. Many themes already use the post title as the H1, so do not add a second one. |

| Squarespace | Highlight text and choose Heading 1 from the formatting menu in the page editor. |
| Shopify | Edit the page, choose Heading 1 in the rich-text editor. For theme templates, check the heading tag in the Customize or Edit code view. |
